Title:
Changing of the Guard
Description:
Its a drab, cold Novembers afternoon along the Southern Tier at Central Valley, NY. It was a Sunday so the railroad was pretty quiet but the next westbound wasnt too far out. The original Erie signal bridge protecting westbound movement here was critically endangered at this point and I knew that if I didnt shoot it now it would be gone forever before I had a chance to come back. Shortly after arriving Train #73 whipped by as I snapped this picture with its markers trailing below the both the old and new structures. The signal would serve one more week before it was ultimately taken OOS and replaced the following weekend. At this time the name of the interlocking was also shortened to CP-Valley from CP-Central Valley. It was one of the first to fall in what would become Metro-Norths larger project to modernize the Southern Tier between Suffern and Port Jervis.
