KCS eastbound train exits Mississippi River Bridge at Vicksburg, Miss. I recall driving over this bridge as recently as 1972. The new bridge (due south) was opened in 1973, but vehicles could drive over this bridge for a couple of years thereafter. It was a numbing experience to hear 18-wheeler scrape against each other ahead of you while an Illinois Central freight growled past on the track. |
