A note on the back of the photo from the Santa Fe publicity depoartment states "Locomotive 1301. Mallet type 4-4-6-2 compound steam locomotivesbuilt by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1909." This was not a successful locomotive and was rebuilt on 10/15/1915 at the Topeka Shops into ATSF 462 #1399. It was eventually sold for scrap on 4/23/1950 to the Purdy Company. |
