Known as a Flashing Rear - End Device (FRED) or a End-Of-Train device (EOT) the unit can be either a simple tail light or actually transmit real time telemetry regarding the operation of the train to the Head-of-Train Device (HTD) also known as a Wilma. Here, FRED takes a ride on a Westbound BNSF stack train lead by #5050 as it goes over the precipice at Summit and descends into the Los Angeles basin. |
