| Forty-eight seat coach 4860 was built by Budd in 1953 as Santa Fe 2848, one of 45 cars (2816-2860) in Lot. No. 9613. Forty-two of these went to Amtrak as the 4810-4828 and 4850-4872; and forty of these were upgraded into Heritage Fleet cars 4700-4739, but not in numerical order. The 4860 became the 4721 in 1980 and was remodeled into 88-seat coach 7628 in 1983. It was photographed on the SUNSET LIMITED, which was using conventional coaches instead of the usual Hi-Level cars on this trip. |
