The train continues into downtown Madison along Campus drive. The siding track (known as the "Long John") used to be a convenient place to stash coal loads for UW-Madison's Charter Street heater plant. The plant has been converted to natural gas, and now the siding houses the occasional cut of covered hoppers or cement shorties. |
