Both locomotives in this photo ride on the same size frame but that is where the similarities end. The lead locomotive was delivered as UP SD40-2 3613 in September 1979, retired then rebuilt by RailPower and returned as a six axle Genset RP20CD. The trailing unit was built for CNW as SD38-2 6651 in January 1975 and after the UP merger assigned to hump service. Although the EMD now wears UP yellow and grey, a scar on the nose remains where the CNW bell was mounted. |
