A fantrip tobenefit Project 39 ran on June 7 1986, a woefully rainy day in the New York area. Here the train approaches Jamaica to pick up its riders for the trip out to Greenport behind a pair of C 420s with F unit 619. At the time, there were still eight C 420's left, all from the 1968 order. These had hi ad trucks, unlike the first order from 1963. Interestingly, this was not even close to a farewell. These units would carry on into the 1990's before being retired. Note the PRR style dwarf signals, as well as the "hanger" on the platform canopy. |
