The recent delivery of new Amtrak P42DC locomotives allowed Amtrak to lease a number of its older F40PH locomotives to power-hungry Union Pacific. Here we see UP SD40-2 3702 and leased Amtrak F40PH 266 tackling the Huey P. Long Bridge with a manifest train from the Norfolk Southern. These photos were taken at 4:00 PM. Fourteen minutes later, this pair of locomotives would have lost their battle with this impressive bridge. This train stalled out at 4:14 PM. |
