When the Gulf Mobile & Ohio merged with the Illinois Central on 10 August 1972, the regular use of the former railroad's CANAL YARD in New Orleans was largely discontinued; but in this view about a month later GP38-2 748 was ready to head north with three hopper cars and a caboose. The elevated track on the right was the scale and the building next to it was the yard office; while the bridge in the distance is the I-10 HIGH RISE over the Industrial Canal, which is off to the right.
