Volkmer. Here is a duplicate 35m color slide of a photo by William . Volkmer that was taken in East Conemaugh, Pennsylvania, on 14 March 1959. Prominent here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7121 and another "Geep" whose road number is not recorded. Both are EFS-17M road switchers built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7121 was constructed in June of 1957. In this context, they're passing through the Conemaugh Yard with a mixed-cargo freight train. The Conemaugh River Valley was devastated during the "Great Johnstown Flood" which occurred on Friday, 31 May 1889. |
